📽️ The In-Universe Chronology

Scroll horizontally to trace DC's cinematic journey. From Themyscira to Metropolis, from Snyder's vision to Gunn's reboot. Each node placed where events actually occur in-story.

Three Timelines, One DCEU

When Barry Allen ran back in time. When Zack Snyder returned to his cut. When James Gunn took the keys. The DCEU was never just one timeline — it was several, overlapping and rebooting.

🦸
The Main DCEU Timeline
The theatrical reality established by Man of Steel. Man of Steel → BvS → Suicide Squad → Justice League (Whedon cut) → Aquaman → Shazam → Birds of Prey → WW84 → TSS → Black Adam. This is the shared universe Warner Bros marketed as the DCEU until 2023.
Primary · 2013–2023
The Snyderverse
Zack Snyder's original vision. Man of Steel, BvS: Ultimate Edition, and Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) form a cohesive dark epic culminating in the reveal of Darkseid. The Snyder Cut's 4-hour runtime and post-JL Knightmare sequence exist only in this timeline. After WB's 2021 management change, this timeline was abandoned.
Director's Vision · Canon Alternate
The Flashpoint Multiverse
Triggered by Barry Allen running back in time to save his mother. Creates an alternate reality where Bruce Wayne is Michael Keaton's Batman (not Ben Affleck), Kara Zor-El is Kal-El, and General Zod returns. The Flash (2023) shows multiple universes collapsing — every version of Batman and Superman across film history briefly visible in the chronobowl.

🔥
Justice League (Whedon Cut)
The 2017 theatrical cut, completed by Joss Whedon after Snyder's departure. Contains a different tone, Superman mustache controversy, Steppenwolf with boring armor, no Darkseid. Officially replaced by Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) in Snyderverse canon, but retained as the mainline DCEU reference by WB until the 2023 reset.

🌟
The DCU (James Gunn Reboot)
After the Flashpoint reset and Warner Bros Discovery restructure, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios. Chapter One: Gods and Monsters begins with Creature Commandos (2024) and Superman (2025) starring David Corenswet. A fresh continuity — though Gunn's own The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker (mostly) carry over.

🏛️
The Elseworlds (DC Black Label)
Todd Phillips' Joker (2019) and Joker: Folie à Deux (2024) exist outside any DCEU continuity — a standalone character study with Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck. Matt Reeves's The Batman (2022) also stands alone with Robert Pattinson's version of Bruce Wayne. These are Elseworlds — same characters, separate realities.

🦇 Three Batmen in One Scene

The Flash (2023) brought together three actors who've worn the cowl across DC film history. For a moment, multiple universes collapsed into one.

Michael Keaton
Batman-89
Tim Burton Universe
The 1989/1992 Batman resumes. Retired, bearded, lives alone in stately Wayne Manor. "You wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts." Becomes mentor to Barry in Flashpoint's alternate reality.
Ben Affleck
Batfleck
DCEU Main Timeline
The armored, jaded Dark Knight of BvS and Justice League. Bike chase through Gotham in The Flash's opening. His final DCEU appearance is a brief passing-the-torch nod.
George Clooney
Bat-Nips
Batman & Robin (1997)
A brief post-Flashpoint cameo in the finale. Clooney's Bruce Wayne greets Barry in a reset reality. The reference to Joel Schumacher's much-maligned Bat-suit was a 26-year-old joke finally paid off.

🌳 Key Branching Events

David Corenswet Arrives
