Loki Season 2 ended in November 2023 with Tom Hiddleston's character claiming the throne of the Sacred Timeline. Marvel hasn't formally greenlit Season 3 — but Hiddleston is open, showrunner Michael Waldron has potential plot direction, and Avengers: Doomsday (December 2026) will be Loki's first MCU appearance since the show concluded.

Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum told Direct in November 2024 that "there's always a chance" Loki gets a third season — but explicitly noted the project isn't in active development. Loki Season 2 concluded with Hiddleston's character ascending to the role of multiversal anchor — holding all branches of the Sacred Timeline together at the climax of a six-episode finale arc. That ending was structurally designed as either an open door for more seasons or a definitive close, depending on Marvel's broader strategic direction.

Tom Hiddleston has publicly engaged with the Season 3 question across multiple interviews in late 2024 and early 2026, all with similar framing: he doesn't know if it's happening, but he'd be glad to return. His next confirmed MCU appearance is Avengers: Doomsday (December 2026), where Loki returns to the broader Avengers ensemble for the first time since his Season 2 finale.

Loki's Doomsday role remains tightly held by Marvel Studios. Promotional materials have included Hiddleston in cast group shots without identifying specific character moments. Trade reports indicate Loki's role connects directly to the multiversal-displacement premise that anchors the broader Phase 6 narrative — but specifics haven't surfaced. The character is the most directly connected of the surviving heroes to the multiversal-anchor premise that Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom is leveraging.

Showrunner Michael Waldron — who has continued working with Marvel Studios on other projects including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) — engaged with Loki Season 3 speculation in a recent Reddit AMA. Without confirming the show, Waldron discussed potential directions including a Sacred Timeline guardian arc, time-loop scenarios, and TVA mythology expansion.

The streaming-TV landscape Marvel Television operates in has shifted substantially since Loki Season 2. VisionQuest (October 2026) and Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 (March 2027) are the two confirmed major Marvel TV projects through early 2027. Loki Season 3 — if it happens — would likely premiere late 2027 or 2028. For broader MCU context, see our MCU hub, Phase 6 roadmap, and The Avengers (2012) where Loki first appeared.
