Krrish 4, the long-awaited fourth installment in India's largest superhero franchise, has been pushed to a 2027 theatrical release. In a major reveal, Hrithik Roshan will direct the film — his first directorial credit — while continuing in the dual lead role.

Producer Rakesh Roshan confirmed both the release shift and the directorial handover in a recent interview. Pre-production begins in early 2026 with principal photography starting mid-2026; the film is targeting a Diwali 2027 theatrical release. Hrithik replaces his father Rakesh — the director of all three prior Krrish films — at the helm.

The franchise — comprising Koi Mil Gaya (2003), Krrish (2006), and Krrish 3 (2013) — has grossed cumulative ₹6+ billion across its run, making it the highest-grossing superhero franchise in Indian cinema history. The 14-year gap between Krrish 3 (2013) and Krrish 4 (2027) would be the longest interval in the series' two-decade history.

The other major development: Yash Raj Films (YRF) is co-producing Krrish 4, the first-ever collaboration between Indian-cinema-major YRF and the Roshan family's Filmkraft Productions. The YRF involvement is widely seen as a signal that the broader Hindi-cinema industry is investing more aggressively in homegrown superhero IP following the commercial success of Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022).

Hrithik will reprise his dual role as both the cognitively-enhanced Rohit Mehra and the masked superhero Krrish — performances that defined his career and earned him the unofficial title of India's biggest superstar across the 2000s and 2010s. The director-and-lead-actor combined role is unprecedented for a Bollywood-superhero production at this scale; industry observers note it as a significant creative-risk commitment.
