🎬 What happens in Venom: The Last Dance (2024)? — Full Plot

⚠️ Heavy spoilers ahead. Forget what you've been told about trilogy conclusions. Venom: The Last Dance (2024) is the rare third-film commercial improvement — $478M on a $120M budget — but also Sony Spider-Verse's final theatrical Venom film as the SSU shut down. Tom Hardy's final Venom appearance. Heavy spoilers ahead.

We open with Eddie Brock and Venom in Mexico, having returned from the multiversal incident in Let There Be Carnage (2021). Eddie and Venom are still partners. They've been on the run from authorities. The film's setting is largely a Mexico-to-Las Vegas road-trip across the American Southwest.

Meanwhile, in the Klyntar homeworld of the symbiotes, Knull — the King of the Symbiotes, the ancient god who created the symbiote race — has been imprisoned in a cosmic prison for millennia. He has been hunting Venom across the universe. Earth is the last refuge.

Eddie and Venom are tracked across the American Southwest by Klyntar bounty hunters — interdimensional creatures called Xenophages who are sent to retrieve Venom and bring him back to Knull. The film's first half is a series of road-movie chases with the bounty hunters interrupting Eddie's attempts at a normal life.

Eddie is captured by Area 51 — the U.S. military's clandestine alien-research facility. There, military forces under General Strickland (Chiwetel Ejiofor) have been studying captured symbiotes. The military intends to weaponize the symbiotes for human soldiers. Eddie and Venom break out, recruiting Dr. Teddy Payne (Juno Temple) — a sympathetic alien-research scientist who has been documenting the captive symbiotes.

Knull's Xenophages eventually arrive in Las Vegas. The Klyntar-Knull contact event coincides with the appearance of meteor-fragment symbiote shards across the city. Various humans are temporarily symbiote-merged in a chaotic Las Vegas action sequence — featuring extras as multiple new symbiote variants.

The climax sees Eddie and Venom permanently separating to defeat Knull's invasion. Venom transfers his consciousness to a wild horse (yes, a literal horse) so that Eddie can be safely returned to a human life. Eddie watches Venom-the-horse gallop away into the desert.

The post-credits scene shows Knull's destruction temporarily set back — but his prison is now leaking. The setup for future films is implicit but no actual sequel is named. Venom: The Last Dance grossed $478 million globally on a $120 million budget — strong commercial success and the trilogy's profitable conclusion. The film closed Tom Hardy's Venom tenure. Sony's animated Spider-Verse films are now the franchise's only active Spider-Man-adjacent IP.
